The Department of Zoology at Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Amarkantak, Madhya Pradesh, India, is a dynamic center of excellence in the biological sciences, dedicated to the study of animal life in all its forms, from microscopic invertebrates to complex vertebrates. With a strong foundation in both classical and modern zoological principles, we foster an environment of scientific curiosity, research innovation, and academic excellence.
The Department was established in 2009, along with the inception of the university. The department has grown into a vibrant academic community that combines teaching, research, and field-based learning. Our programs are designed to provide students with in-depth knowledge of animal biology, biochemistry, cell biology, developmental biology, neurobiology, reproductive biology, physiology, genetics, evolution, and conservation, preparing them for careers in academia, research, environmental management, and beyond.
Vision
To be a leading center for zoological education and research, contributing to global knowledge and sustainable living. Along with that, the department also focuses on unfolding the mysteries of bacterial infection in disease progression in the tribal population, fostering knowledge in the field of neurological disorders, insect-plant interaction, and toxicity of aquatic animals.
Mission
- To provide high-quality education in animal sciences and related disciplines, namely infection biology, aquatic biology, neurobiology, entomology, and biodiversity conservation
- To promote research that advances understanding of animal life and addresses ecological challenges
- To engage students in practical learning through fieldwork, laboratory research, and interdisciplinary projects
- To foster awareness and responsibility toward biodiversity and environmental sustainability
Academic Programs
