Started in the year 2012 the department of journalism and mass communication offers UG,PG, and Ph.D programmes. In its 13 years of journey, the Department has produced bright students who are making a name for the University and the Department in various fields. Students from the Department are successfully working in diverse areas such as the media industry, journalism education, public relations, Govt. services, self-employment, advertising, digital media, and digital marketing. The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, with a total of seven approved faculty positions, holds a prominent place in communication education in Central India. Various aspects of communication-related research are being conducted in the department, with special focus areas including tribal communication traditions, tribal social communication, creativity related to tribal communication, traditional folk media, and their effectiveness.
The department also has a special emphasis on interdisciplinary research, and various aspects of the dynamics of the interrelation between society and communication are being analyzed through research work. In its short journey, a total of 09 research students has obtained Ph.D. degrees from the department, and dozens of students are currently pursuing research. Talented students have achieved significant success in national competitions such as UGC NET and UGC Junior Research Fellowship, thereby bringing honour to the department. The focus of the department is to prepare students who are proficient in practical skills and are connected to the theoretical aspects of communication and journalism, enabling them to succeed in their profession and do justice to the role of a communicator through intellectual discourse.

OBEJECTIVES
• To impart knowledge and provide training to the students from across the country to prepare them for diverse career options in the field of Mass Communication
• To develop understanding of socio-cultural perspectives of communication in a diverse and changing society
• To facilitate avenues of higher education and research with a motive to preserve art, culture and traditions of the region
• To train and encourage students and scholars to preserve the cultural diversity, heritage, literature and customs of the tribal communities of the region through documentation using print, out-of-home, audio & visual, digital and other media formats
• To create awareness through dissemination of knowledge and extension activities for socio-economic development of the area
• To develop collaboration with other institutions and agencies for undertaking research and develop understanding on issues related to tribal development
