The Department of Economics at Indira Gandhi National Tribal University (IGNTU), established in 2008, strives to be a premier hub for academic excellence and research. Its vision is to cultivate a new generation of Undergraduates (UG), Postgraduates (PG), and Ph.D. scholars (introduced in 2014-15) who can contribute effectively to global economic discourse while addressing critical challenges such as inequality, poverty, and sustainability.

The department aligns with NEP 2020 by offering workshops, training, and updated curricula in economics, integrating practical skills, research, and emerging technologies. It encourages creativity through webinars and industry collaborations while promoting the Indian knowledge system, critical thinking, and participatory tribal research in Amarkantak. With a focus on inclusive education and community engagement, it nurtures academic excellence and social responsibility. Supported by esteemed faculty, brilliant students, and successful alumni, the department upholds the university's mission of global competence and societal impact.

Vision

1.     To nurture future leaders for industry, government, and civil society, equipped with the knowledge and skills to advance inclusive growth, sustainability, and the development of tribal and marginalized communities.

2.     To integrate contemporary economic theories and practices with Indian Knowledge Systems, fostering critical thinking, ethical decision-making, and innovative problem-solving.

3.     To promote rigorous scholarship in Indian and global economic systems, leveraging indigenous tribal knowledge to address pressing socio-economic challenges and formulate ethical, socially responsible, and context-specific solutions.

Mission

1.     Provide students with a robust foundation in economics, decision-making, and problem-solving, preparing them for excellence in academia, industry, and policymaking.

2.     Promote innovation, ethical leadership, and entrepreneurial skills to empower tribal communities and address broader socio-economic challenges.

3.     Advance academic excellence through cutting-edge research, participatory methodologies, and practical problem-solving to achieve sustainable development goals.

4.     Equip students for advanced academic pursuits by integrating contemporary economics with the Indian knowledge system, emphasizing tribal development and critical socio-economic issues.

1.Muhamad Irfan

1.   I am Muhammad Irfan, an independent researcher on Criminal Economics currently working as an Administrative Supervisor at ALHAMD LEGAL TRANSLATIONS AND PRIVATE NOTARY, UAE. My journey with IGNTU started with the enrolment number 2101205023 as a master's degree student of the 2021-23 batch of the Department of Economics.

I was privileged to learn under the guidance of distinguished faculty whose diverse and remarkable profiles left an indelible mark on my academic and personal development. Their unique approaches and unwavering support honed my critical thinking, analytical abilities, and research acumen—skills that continue to illuminate my path. I still remember the days when the ICSSR-sponsored FDP was organized. Every morning, we had to give presentations in front of faculty members from other universities. That platform truly nurtured and strengthened our skills, shaping us for future academic endeavors .I am profoundly grateful to my teachers, supervisors, and the Department of Economics, who not only nurtured my intellectual growth but also instilled in me a deep sense of purpose and direction. The pride I carry for being part of such an extraordinary institution is immense, and I remain forever indebted to those who shaped my journey and reminded me of my potential and the road I am destined to tread.
